We all have those days. You know, it’s cloudy out there, it’s cold and your motivation for life is best described as the swirling water in the toilet just before it disappears. To insure my mood didn’t go down the drain too I decided to grab a favourite camera and head downtown for some hopefully fun street photography.
I wasn’t quite up to shooting film I grabbed my current favourite digital camera is the Panasonic GH5 equipped with an Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro lens. I love this combination! The lens is tack sharp, well corrected and easy to manually focus. In the past I shot Nikon full frame but due to planned documentary work in third world countries a smaller, lighter set of equipment was desirable. That and I just don’t enjoy lugging around five pound lenses anymore.
I set the camera to RAW plus jpg, 3:4 image ratio, formatted my card and off I went.
Given the day I decided black and white was the way to go. Rather than try and simulate some magical black and white film from the past I do all my conversions in PhotoShop rather than setting the camera to black and white mode. I’ve played with in camera black and white and I do love shooting black and white film but trying to dial it in on digital cameras to me seems a waste of time. Each to their own.
Once I finished my photo walk I visited a Tim Horton’s and had a great cappuccino in the company of some of our residence challenged. Both the coffee and the company were great!
So here are the images, I hope you enjoy them.

I love the crispness of your choice of B&W! It showcases the lines in the architecture and the textures of the softer shots. The color pop in the last photo was unexpected and delightful surprise!!
